Alan

Hi! My name is Alan Maddocks.

I am 52 years old, live in Quorn, a village just a couple of miles south of Loughborough, and am the father of three sport mad sons. I have set up Beacon Hill Striders to enable young people like my sons to experience the benefits of a fit and healthy lifestyle, and to achieve sporting success through cross-country and track running.

I have been fortunate to have been a successful runner for over thirty years. I have won Leicestershire County Cross-Country and Track titles at both senior and veteran levels, and have represented Wales , Leicestershire and British Students at cross-country running. I have considerable experience as a successful runner and have learnt many lessons along the way.

I am now keen to share these lessons with you to help you maximize your potential as a runner and to achieve your sporting goals.

In addition to being an active runner for thirty years I have been an avid reader of books about running, coaching and training theory, and have built up an extensive library of reference material. I am also a regular subscriber to a number of running related publications.

I have considerable experience of working with young people. I was a teacher in a Leicestershire 14-19 Community College for 12 years, and was a Project Manager at Loughborough University, working on projects to enhance the personal development, skills, and learning experiences of students at the University for a further 10 years. I am now working as a freelance higher education consultant offering a range of services based on the skills and expertise I have built up over the past 25 years.

As your training advisor/guide/mentor I offer:

  • Considerable experience as a successful runner gained from competing at local, national and international level
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of training theory gained from extensive reading
  • Planning, organisational and communication skills developed as a manager and educator
  • A history of delivering successful outcomes and achieving desired results

These provide me with the background to be able to offer you sound and effective advice on how to maximize your potential as a runner.

Note: I have an 'Enhanced CRB' registered through UK Athletics Limited.
