The results from the Leicestershire & Rutland County Secondary Schools' X-Country Championships held at Ratcliffe College on Saturday, January 23rd can now be found HERE : The results of the County Schools' Relays @ Shepshed High School on Saturday, March 6th will be posted shortly.

Beacon Hill Striders is an independent training group open to all ambitious cross-country runners of secondary school age in Leicestershire. Beacon Hill Striders offers an athlete-centred approach to the development of young distance runners. Training sessions, designed to develop speed, strength and stamina are conducted each week under the guidance of a former international athlete and county senior cross-country champion. Training takes place at a number of venues in and around the Charnwood Forest area of Leicestershire.

Membership of the Beacon Hill Striders training group is FREE! - Just turn up and run!

LATEST NEWS (February/ March 2010):

  • Twelve group members took part in the annual Ivanhoe Challenge Junior X-C Races on Saturday, February 13th with six of them recording top 5 finishes. In the Year 5&6 Boys' race, Ben Dijkstra & Alfie Thompson repeated their 1-2 finish of the previous year, whilst Elizabeth Mulvaney took bronze in the Year 5&6 Girls' race. In the Year 7&8 Boys' race Robbie Moulding was 4th, whilst Phillip Maddocks was third overall in the Year 9 & Above Boys'/Girls' Race. In the same race Christopher Mulvaney running in his first ever X-Country race was 2nd in the Year 11 & Above Boys category. (13/02)
  • Two of our younger members took centre stage @ the Queniborough Fun Run on Saturday, February 20th. In the 80 strong Primary Schools' race Ben Tansley finished 2nd. overall whilst Charlotte Heaps was 2nd Girl & 8th overall. (20/02)
  • Alfie Thompson (58th) & Ben Dijksta (67th) recorded top 100 performances in the Under 13 Boys' race at the English National X-C Championships held @ Roundhay Park, Leeds on Saturday, February 27th. Running against opposition up to 2 years older than them both, Alfie & Ben showed the potential that could make them future individual medal winners at National level. Other members of the group running at Leeds were: Robbie Moulding (U13 Boys: 195th); Elizabeth Mulvaney (U13 Girls: 183rd); Charlotte Heaps (U13 Girls: 387th); William Rawlinson (U15 Boys: 139th); Phillip Maddocks (U15 Boys: 187th); & Stephen Maddocks (Junior Men: 141st). All of these runners (apart from Robbie) will still be eligible to compete in the same age groups next year. (27/02)
  • Five group members gained selection for the East Midlands' London Mini-Marathon team @ Holme Pierrepoint, Nottingham on Sunday, March 7th. With six from each age group to qualify, in the Age 11-12 Boys race Alfie Thompson was 3rd., whilst Ben Dijkstra came 4th. In the equivalent Girls' race Elizabeth Mulvaney was 5th. In a highly competitive Boys' 13-14 race Andrew Halliwell was 3rd., whilst William Rawlinson came 6th. Another three group members: Charlotte Heaps (Girls 11-12: 12th), Phillip Maddocks (Boys 13-14: 7th), & Stephen Maddocks (Boys 15-17: 9th) are currently on the reserve list. (07/03)

  • Wednesday, March 10th: Easy/Steady Run @ Quorn @ 6.30pm.
  • Saturday, March 13th: Leicestershire Primary Schools X-C Championships @ Rutland Water.
  • Saturday, March 13th: Hill Repetition Session @ The Beacon (Lower Car Park) @ 11.00am.
  • Sunday, March 14th: Long/Easy Run @ Newtown Linford Car Park @ 10.00am.


Beacon Hill Striders are keen to work with others and support initiatives which encourage and support young athletes who wish to compete at cross-country, track and road running.
