Beacon Hill Striders is an independent (non-affiliated) training group open to all ambitious cross-country runners of secondary school age in Leicestershire. Beacon Hill Striders offers an athlete-centred approach to the development of young distance runners. Training sessions, designed to develop speed, strength and stamina are conducted each week under the guidance of a former international athlete and county senior cross-country champion. Training takes place at a number of venues in and around the Charnwood Forest area of Leicestershire.
Membership of the Beacon Hill Striders training group is FREE! - Just turn up and run!

LATEST NEWS (June/July 2010):
- Eight group members recorded personal best (PB) times @ the Charnwood Open T&F Meeting @ Loughborough University on Wednesday, June 16th. In the 1500m races Ben Dijkstra led the charge with a 4-59.4 clocking, followed closely by James Tambini (5-06.0), Alfie Thompson (5-08.2), Ben Tansley (5-18.4) & Elizabeth Mulvaney (5-41.1). At 400m Joe Tambini recorded 57.8 seconds, whilst at 200m Fraser McHale (26.4) & Phillip Maddocks (26.9) completed the PB count. (16/06)
- Inter Boys Andrew Halliwell (800m: 2-14.0) & William Rawlinson (1500m: 4-45.4), & Junior Boys Robbie Moulding (1500m: 5-02.3) & Ben Sendall (5-03.1) all competed with distinction for their School (Loughborough Grammar School) in the Regional Round of the English Schools' T&F Cup during the week beginning June 14th. - Beacon Hill Striders duo Ben Masser & Phillip Maddocks recorded excellent performances @ the "Magic Mile" event organised by Kibworth & Fleckney Running Club @ the Kibworth Cricket Club Grounds on Tuesday, June 22nd. In the Under 14 Race 11 year-old Ben ran with great credit to finish 7th in a time of 6 minutes & 18 seconds. In the Under 16 Race, Phillip ran a tactical race to finish 2nd in 5 minutes & 32 seconds behind Leicestershire's leading Under 17 middle distance runner Stefan Ashman. To round off the evening Phillip contributed a 62 second 400m leg when partnering his Coritanian club mates Ashman & Jonny Monk to record an impressive victory for the Leicester Coritanian trio in the 4 x 400m Relay in a time of 4 minutes & 04 seconds. - Seven group members (Pascal Bouttier-Butler, Ben Dijkstra, Jazzmin Kiffin, Ben Masser, Elizabeth Mulvaney, Gabriel Rawlinson, & Ben Tansley) represented their schools' area when competing in the Leicestershire Primary Schools' T&F Championships on Friday, July 2nd. Ben Dijkstra took gold in the Year 6 Boys' 800m, whilst Ben Masser took Silver in the Year 6 Boys' 1Km Walk. (02/07)
- Six group members braved monsoon conditions on the evening of Wednesday, July 14th to record very respectable times over 1500m @ the Charnwood Open T&F meeting held at Lughborough University. They were: Joe Tambini (4-58.5); Ben Dijkstra (5-02.9); Alfie Thompson (5-07.1); James Tambini (5-18.4); Ben Tansley (5-29.7); & Pascal Bouttier-Butler (5-39.5). (14/07)

- Thursday, July 29th: Easy/Steady Run @ The Beacon (Lower Car Park) @ 6.30pm.
- Saturday, July 31st: VO2 Max Repetition Session @ Charnwood Waters, Loughborough @ 10.30am.
- Sunday, August 1st: Long Easy Run @ Bradgate Park, Newtown Linford Car Park) @ 10.00am.
Beacon Hill Striders are keen to work with others and support initiatives which encourage and support young athletes who wish to compete at cross-country, track and road running.
