The Beacon Hill Striders Training Programme is an athlete-centred programme based on sound training principles designed to build and develop your speed, strength and stamina.
The principles on which this programme is based are:
- An emphasis on the long-term development of each runner
- An emphasis on establishing a firm foundation of fitness and endurance
- An emphasis on the individual needs of each runner
- An emphasis on focusing on three to four key running sessions per week
- The use of cross-training to aid recovery between sessions
- Training sessions that are challenging, varied and fun
Training elements are balanced to ensure an all round development of speed, stamina, and strength. Our athletes are encouraged to train on a regular basis: 2-3 times per week for those in Years 7-9, and more frequently for those in Years 10 & Above.
The focus of training during the Autumn/Winter months tends to highlight the development of stamina for cross-country running. In the Spring/Summer months the focus switches to speed in readiness for summer track races. In line with traditional training methods, as summer approaches the intensity of our sessions increase, while the volume decreases.
