Beacon Hill Striders lead off @ the start of the Derby Midweek Races, April 2010Beacon Hill Striders is an independent training group offering keen, enthusiastic and ambitious cross-country runners of secondary school age in Leicestershire the opportunity to develop strength, speed and stamina for cross-country and track running.

Our training group consists of runners ranging in age from 11 to 18. The training group includes members of local athletics/running clubs and other runners who have yet to join such a club.

Beacon Hill Striders welcome runners of all abilities. Whilst the standard of group members is high (many of our runners have represented Leicestershire or Leicestershire Schools during the past 2 years) of greater importance is your commitment, enthusiasm and desire to improve.

During the Autumn & Winter months we train on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. Venues vary from one training session to another but we seek to do most of our training in natural environments. Regular locations include: Bradgate Park; The Beacon (near Woodhouse Eaves); The Outwoods (near Nanpantan, Loughborough); Charnwood Waters (Loughborough) and Caves Field Cricket Ground (Quorn).

During the Summer months we train each Saturday morning and on at least one further occassion per week, depending on racing commitments.

Some of our older / more experienced runners also regularly join in training sessions with a Leicester Coritanian squad, coached by one of Leicestershire's most experienced middle distance running coaches (Paul Blissett).

Group members compete locally in Schools and Club X-Country and Track races throughout the year. Our more advanced athletes will also compete at regional and national level. Our younger / less experienced runners are also encouraged to take part in local Junior Races.
